Statement on New York State Supreme Court Ruling in Favor of Bitcoin Miner

November 15th, 2024

The New York State Supreme Court ruled in favor of Greenidge Generation, a power plant and bitcoin mine operator, in its case against the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (NYDEC). The decision reinforces a core principle we stand by: fairness and equitable treatment for all businesses, including Bitcoin mining. In finding that NYDEC “acted in a manner that was both affected by errors of law and arbitrary and capricious” in denying Greenridge’s Clean Air Act Section V permit, Justice Vicent DiNolfo affirmed that regulatory bias against Bitcoin mining operations is unjust and unsupported by law.

The decision underscores the bias bitcoin mining facilities face despite operating businesses that support both local communities and reliable grid operations. While Greenidge is not affiliated with the Digital Power Network, we celebrate their success in overcoming discriminatory regulatory practices. Bitcoin mining has a valuable role in New York, driving innovation, supporting local communities, and contributing to grid stability. continues to serve as a home to innovative businesses.

We look forward to seeing Bitcoin mining thrive in New York and stand ready to work with state leaders to educate and demonstrate the many benefits of this innovative industry.
