Response to NY’s GEIS for Cryptocurrency Mining Operations

Today, the Digital Power Network (DPN) provided comments to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) regarding the Draft Public Scoping Document for Generic Environmental Impact Statement (GEIS) for Cryptocurrency Mining Operations that use Proof-of-Work Authentication Methods to Validate Blockchain Transactions.

Mining data centers are actively supporting New York State’s economic and environmental goals. In keeping with the state’s goals under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, miners’ ability to monetize renewable energy resources in various market conditions can provide a unique catalyst for the energy transition. It is critical that during its review the DEC consider the flexibility that miners offer grid operators to balance the grid and maintain a reliable supply of sustainable power to consumers now and in the future.

The DPN is proud to represent Bitcoin mining data centers in New York that not only operate sustainably, but also provide well-paying jobs, considerable tax revenue, and new opportunities for New Yorkers. We look forward to continuing to engage in the development of the GEIS.
